on time!

The battery in my Swiss Army (Victorinox) watch died and I sent it in to get replaced, so it could stay waterproof. Well they tell me that it's going to cost me $100 to get it replaced and fixed, because the watch movement is "dirty", there is a dent on the back of the watch, and the watch band is worn, mind you I put a new watch band on there about two days before the battery died. Needless to say, I'm not going to pay $100 to fix the watch when it can be bought new for about $125. But then I started looking around at watches, and found one that is solar powered, so hopefully no more battery changes, or at least not as often, and it is radio controlled, so it receives time updates from an atomic clock in Colorado, WWVB, every night. Now my watch is always correct to the second, and its solar powered :) Oh and it adjusts for daylight savings automatically :) The Swiss Army (Victorinox) watch didn't do that, and while it kept great time, set it correct down to the second and it was always accurate, whenever it had to be changed for daylight savings, you had to get the time on it accurate again. It's a Casio GW800-1V, module 3061. Thanks for the pics casio.com :)

Module progress: module 4 about 60% done

jury duty!

Got a Juror Summons earlier this year and postponed it the maximum I could possibly do, which was twice. Today I was scheduled to appear to serve my country and fellow men and women by being part of a jury of peers to give those on trial a fair and impartial hearing... Or something to that effect, the attorneys and judge said it quite a bit better than I just summarized it. Well I made it as far as the courtroom for the jury selection. They needed six of jurors out of twenty four, better chances of being chosen than winning the lottery :) But they sure do take a very long time using the voir dire. Seriously felt like we were on trial, it took the better part of five hours and then about thirty something odd minutes for them to decide which of the six they were going to choose to be jurors. Sadly I wasn't chosen, so I'll get to be a jury another time I guess :)

So I was let out around 4:10 pm (according to my text messages) and my mom had dropped me at the court house and kept the car. She was done with work at 5pm, and wouldn't get to the courthouse till 5:30ish... So I sat outside and was reading my actuarial study papers (yea I'm still going...) and about an hour and fifteen minutes later, I get questioned by security... Am I an student? Studying to be a lawyer? At least one of them knew what an actuary was :) But then again they proceeded to ask for ID and call in a look up on me, no record was returned :) Ironically one officer asked me if I had a bomb in my bag. Another officer asked if anyone had searched me or my bag. A third officer answered them by saying the sniffer dog had come my way... I had ask the police officer with the sniffer dog what they were looking for, and she was obviously avoiding the question, saying they were just playing and looking for the dog's toy... Then again when I look like the picture below... I sort of don't blame them for asking suspecting me, but then that doesn't make it a free country... And this is me not fully shaving or really trimming since about March of 2009. I shave like on the cheek bone area but that's about it.

Still not sure what obligation I have to hand over my ID to a police officer at a court house... On the bright side I passed exam C in Nov 2008 and now I'm pursuing the modules... which replaced exam/course 5 and 6. There are eight modules and two assessments. Modules one to five and interim assessment and modules six to eight and final assessment. Currently on module four. The readings are rather time consuming...

vacuum switch

My vacuum cleaner broke recently. The switch is a plastic rod that when slid, pushes the actual electrical switch... I thought it was the mechanical sliding rod broke, since it worked intermittently... Nope it turned out to be the switch. Sears said it was about 3.50 for a new one, but why put the same switch back in to go bad in about a year... Got a nice cheap one from RadioShack, and that seemed to work, after some dremelling of where the mechanical rod was, and the switch works now... Yay!!!

Pass my MFE exam in November 2007, but not such good news in May 2008 with exam C... Revenge is mine in November 2008 though :)

My road racing bike is slowly getting transformed into a commuter bike... I'm trying the riding to the train station and then to work, and the other way back home... Needing to carry things, having safety lights... yea its not light anymore...

Free trip to atlanta

That's right, I got myself a free trip to Atlanta with Delta Airlines. I was supposed to be going to Ottawa, ON for my cousin's wedding, but there was bad weather at the Atlanta airport, and by the team we get redirected, refueled, permission to land and had actually landed, my flight to Ottawa was gone a whole hour ago. The next flight from Delta was the next evening, and any other possible solution of flying and driving would get me there after the wedding. So I ended up staying in Atlanta, and hanging out with my one of my friend's from high school that I haven't seen in about five years. We were having such a good time I had to call and ask them to put me on the later flight back home that evening :). While I was getting my flights sorted out the night of all the mess, the ticket agent said to call them and ask them for a refund. I was expecting about half of my refund, though I could argue for more since I only flew about 30% of the miles I paid to fly for, but I ended up getting a full refund... as in every single penny. Given that I spent at most $100 while in Atlanta, that's not bad I think, thanks Delta :)

I passed my third exam, well the first part of it. It took a while, as in a few days, to sink in that I actually did pass. The reason? The exam was brutally hard and I had walked out of there thinking I was not going to pass, but I managed to pass and for that I am grateful :) Of course I'm studying for the second part of the third exam now, the exam is on November 6th... I think it is on a Tuesday.

exam MLC

It was crazy!!! The exam was just a lot harder than I expected or anyone else expected I believe. That being said, I'm hoping I pass. I came home and fell asleep promptly for a few hours. I'm still feeling tired for the exam. Another guy at work took today off to relax it off. Here's to hoping I pass!

It's summer time and that means one thing... Lots of new movies being released. In the line are Spider-Man 3, Shrek the Third, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Live Free or Die Hard, Ratatouille,Transformers, The Simpsons Movie & last but not least, Rush Hour 3. Sure there is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but I'm not a big Harry Potter fun though it might be fun to rent it once its out on DVD. I just realized that there is a IMAX version of Spider-Man 3. That would be something to go see :)
